Pointers for setting up a photography studio/business?
I'm
getting really into studio photography...and i want to make a little
money...i still have lots to learn, but unfortunately can't afford a
formal education...i'm rather good at it and can do some really good
photo retouching as well...i'm looking for tips, links to tips and
important information i need to know, and if possible a list of things
that i would need to set up a studio...and any diy ideas as well would
be great...

The formal education is not required, but the money is.
Best advice if you want to get into studio photography and do not have
a large amount of money to start with is go to work for a studio. Main
reason businesses fail is they do not have the money to cover expenses
during tight times.
You need more than just a camera and few lights to start up a business.
Along with the equipment needed you need studio space. If you are
actually going to start up a store front studio then you need finances
to cover rent, insurance, utilities and any employee salaries for at
least 12-18 months. Remember most businesses that fail do so in the
first year.
As far as advancing in photography best advice is shoot, shoot and
shoot some more. Find local photo groups many are free and open to
people of all skill and experience levels. Watch out for scam artists
that want to get rich preying on beginners.
A few sites that will help with DIY ideas, tips as well as people
willing to critique your work and offer advice. I use both sites and
even though I have several thousands of dollars worth of gear I still
use some of the ideas on DIY Photography for makeshift gear as well as
shooting ideas.
